School runs, half-term and clear handovers.
Start with a normal school-week routine, then add the exceptions. A shared calendar should show who is caring for your child, when the next change happens and what each parent needs to bring. Keep dates, tasks and the conversation about a change close together.
Choose the right bank-holiday calendar
England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland do not share one identical bank-holiday calendar. A substitute bank holiday can also fall on a different date from the occasion itself. Check the relevant nation’s dates before extending a weekend or booking time away.
For Mother’s Day, the UK uses Mothering Sunday rather than the May date commonly used in the US. Duet’s UK holiday region follows that distinction. Half-term, inset days and the start of the summer holidays still need the dates from your child’s school.
Check GOV.UK bank holidays by nation and your school’s published calendar before finalising dates.
A half-term handover plan
Record the last school collection, the first overnight of the break and the return time before school starts again. If one parent takes the first part of half-term, use actual dates rather than “the first half” so a school closure or inset day does not leave a gap.
Keep shared costs clear in GBP
A £90 school-uniform purchase split equally is £45 per parent. Keep the receipt with the expense context, record who paid and agree the split. Recording a settlement in Duet documents a payment made elsewhere; it does not transfer money.
Duet 1.19 supports USD, CAD, GBP, EUR, AUD and NZD. It records shared costs, splits and payments made outside the app. It does not move money or automatically convert currencies. Learn how shared expenses and settlements fit alongside the family calendar.
Build a routine before the next school break
- Compare a 2-2-3 rotation with week-on, week-off in the free browser calculator.
- Add the school’s actual break dates and decide which holiday dates replace the normal rotation.
- Write a time and place for each collection or changeover, including who brings school bags and activity kit.
- Review the plan together before making bookings. The calculator is a planning preview, not an automatic import into Duet.

Is Duet available in the UK now?
Duet is available in the UK for supported iPhone and iPad devices with iOS or iPadOS 26 or later.
Does choosing UK fill in every bank holiday and school closure?
No. Review England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland separately, and use your own school’s term dates. Regional suggestions are a starting point, not a complete local school calendar.
Do both parents need Apple devices?
Yes. The shared Duet app requires supported iPhone or iPad devices, iOS or iPadOS 26 or later, and iCloud accounts. There is no Android or browser version of the shared app. The free schedule calculator works in a web browser.
Can I try the schedule calculator without the app?
Yes. Use the free browser calculator to compare rotations, count overnights and print a plan. It does not automatically import into Duet or decide which arrangement is right for your family.
