What is a parenting schedule swap?

A swap is a proposed exchange of specific parenting days. One parent offers dates and asks for other dates in return. The important details are the actual days, the handoff timing, and whether both parents agree to the change.

Duet’s Swap Requests keep those details attached to the calendar. A proposal is something to review before the shared plan changes, making it easier to distinguish a suggestion from an accepted schedule.

How Swap Requests work in Duet

  1. Choose the days to offer. Start with the dates you want the other parent to take.
  2. Choose any dates you’re requesting. Make the other side of an exchange explicit, or leave requested dates empty when you are only offering days.
  3. Compare the calendar. Review offered and requested days together, including dates that cross into another month.
  4. Share and respond. Share the proposal through Messages. The other parent can accept, decline, or propose different dates.
  5. Review the resulting plan. Check the updated parenting days and associated handoff arrangements.

A weekend exchange

Suppose a work trip overlaps your planned weekend. Offer that weekend and request an alternative. Seeing both weekends on the calendar helps each parent check school events, travel, and other commitments before responding.

Check the details around the dates

Before accepting a swap, compare the proposal with your holiday plan, school calendar, and family events. Confirm pickup time and location using your handoff checklist. A change in parenting days can also mean a different transportation arrangement.

Draft a wider change with Smart Proposals

For a new rotation or a longer block of time, Smart Proposals can draft 2-2-3, weekly, or custom parenting schedules on supported devices. Suggested changes remain reviewable, and holiday assignments stay locked during Smart Proposal drafting.

Offer days without requesting days back

Some changes are a one-way offer of parenting days. In Duet 1.18, you can offer dates without requesting any dates in return. The other parent still reviews the proposed change before it becomes part of the shared plan.

Duet supports everyday coordination. A proposed or accepted change in the app should still be checked against the parenting arrangements your family follows.
